Preservation Of Open Space At Mosborough

EDM number 1558 in 1993-94, proposed by Clive Betts on 20/07/1994.

That this House requests Sheffield City Council to accept the 8,000 signature petition it has received to redesignate land around Bridle Stile at Mosborough from housing development to open space, and to incorporate this land into the green belt as part of the current review of the unitary development plan, because, following on the extensive house building already completed or under way in the Mosborough area, further development on Bridle Stiles sites would destroy important public open space and associated informal leisure activities, would compromise the current green belt in the Moss Valley, destroy the largest badger colony in South Yorkshire and cause other associated environment and ecological damage, as well as removing item of important historical interest; and, in formulating policies to provide for house building within the unitary development plan, requests the council to give priority to the wishes of the community, rather than the commercial requirements of the House Builders' Federation and to plan to increase house building on derelict inner-city sites instead of allowing the continued erosion of open space which is required by green field development.

This motion has been signed by a total of 7 MPs.
