Sale Of British Property In Spain
EDM number 1502 in 1993-94, proposed by Gwyneth Dunwoody on 13/07/1994.
That this House notes the devastating situation of many British citizens who, having acquired property in Spain, have been deprived of their ownership by repossession in payment of debts which were not their liability and of which they were totally unaware; further notes that many of these actions were instigated without the knowledge of the house owners by Spanish banks, like the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya; and demands the urgent creation of an investigating commission at Spanish Government level to discover by whom the frauds have been perpetrated and to bring the criminals to justice and to restore to British citizens either the property for which they have already paid or the full amount of compensation for their homes.
