National Health Service In Northumberland
EDM number 1448 in 1993-94, proposed by Ronnie Campbell on 05/07/1994.
That this House notes with great concern the announcement by the Cheviot and Wansbeck National Health Trust of their intention to reduce 51 full-time equivalent posts at the hospitals they manage in Northumberland; further notes that this announcement follows the earlier loss of 14 jobs only two weeks ago; expresses deep concern that these job losses can only result in a reduction of health care in Northumberland; believes that the job losses, and the low staff morale which now exists as a result, coupled with the proposed closure of Hartford Hall Rehabilitation Centre and the failure to provide the much needed paediatric ward in the county, seriously brings into doubt the will of the Government to fund adequately National Health Service hospitals and the ability of the Cheviot and Wansbeck Trust to manage the hospitals in Northumberland; and calls upon the Secretary of State to launch an investigation into the situation in Northumberland, with a view to ensuring that the jobs are saved and that health care services to the people of Northumberland are not reduced.
