That this House congratulates the Right Reverend Mark Santer, Bishop of Birmingham, on his outspoken defence of a National Health Service that puts the needs of the patients first; believes that the Bishop's claims that the National Health Service reforms have reduced patients to units of consumption, reflects the views expressed to honourable Members by their constituents; notes that the Bishop calls on the Government and administration to listen more carefully to the views of patients and those who care for them; and demands that the Secretary of State recognises the truth of the Bishop's remarks and takes measures to scrap the market mentality in health care that is causing such chaos and distress in the Health Service.
