Take Up Of Income Support In Lancashire

That this House commends Lancashire County Council Welfare Rights Unit and Lancashire district and borough councils on identifying 8,941 pensioners who may be entitled to claim income support following the 1994 benefit upratings, rather than the official estimate of 2,400; notes that this was done by mailing those currently claiming housing and/or council tax benefit; and deplores the Secretary of State for Social Security's refusal to make measures to enhance take-up by advertising the new entitlements nationally.
