Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Education
EDM number 1397 in 1993-94, proposed by Hugh Bayley on 27/06/1994.
That this House notes the failure of the Secretary of State for Education to notify the York Dioceasan Board of Finance, who are trustees of Howden C of E Infants' School, of his Department's approval of grant-maintained status for the school in January 1994 despite repeated requests for confirmation after reports of his decision in the local press; further notes the Secretary of State's failure to reply to the York Diocesan Board of Education's complaints in November 1993 about irregularities in the conduct of the ballot about grant-maintained status at Barmby Moor C of E Primary School; condemns the Secretary of State for his failure to reply to further letters written to him, on behalf of the York Diocesan Board, by the honourable Member for York on 25th March and 3rd May; believes that a Secretary of State who is unable over a period of more than six months to answer simple queries about one of his Department's key policies is unfit to run a Department of State; and calls upon the Prime Minister to relieve him of his duties at the earliest opportunity.
