Democracy And Military Rule In Nigeria (No. 2);amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 1380A1 in 1993-94, proposed by Ann Winterton on 27/06/1994.

leave out from 'House' to end and add: 'notes that Right honourable and honourable Members have received a letter dated 20th June from and organisation calling itself the "Nigeria Pro-Democracy Movement", which was signed by a Colonel Tony Nyiam and a Great Ogboru and which urges support for Chief Abiola; regrets that these two individuals failed in that letter to mention their involvement in a failed military coup in Nigeria in 1990, which led to loss of life, or that they subsequently fled that country; believes that the use of Early Day Motions to endorse particular candidates for positions of public office in other countries is not a wise use of the Order Paper, over-simplifies complex political and constitutional situations, and risks stalling the progress towards democratic reform in a member country of the Commonwealth; welcomes as an important step on the road to democracy in Nigeria the inauguration on Monday 27 June of a National Constitutional Conference; commends the Nigerian Government on its commitment to hand over power through the Federal Government Political Programme and the formulation of a new constitution to a democratically elected civilian administration; and extends to the people of Nigeria its best wishes for every possible success in overcoming the considerable hurdles to democratic reform which will undoubtedly continue to arise.'.

This is a ammendment to 1380.
