Deportation Of Five Year Old Sickle Cell Child
EDM number 1371 in 1993-94, proposed by Robert Litherland on 22/06/1994.
That this House condemns immigration laws which allow the rich and the famous to flout the rules of entry into this country yet at the same time will deport a five year old child suffering from sickle cell anaemia; and calls on the Home Secretary to reverse this inhuman decision and allow Helen Aladesanwe to remain here in the United Kingdom where her son Steven, who needs daily medication for the rest of his life to control this hereditary disease, can be offered the adequate treatment and care he would not receive if returned to Nigeria, living a considerable distance from the nearest large town, where treatment would not be automatically available, as medical opinion in this country is that Steven will be exposed to the possibilities of increased infections and his disease could result in serious long term complications and in his mother's words his premature death.
