Transport Of Live Animals (No. 2)

EDM number 1355 in 1993-94, proposed by Paul Tyler on 21/06/1994.

That this House welcomes the decision by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on the question of the transport of live animals, in particular her withdrawal of the UK's support for the Greek compromise position of 22 hours transport without rest or food, which would have weakened existing British regulations, and add her weight to the German, Dutch, Danish and Belgian proposal; and calls on the Minister to give unqualified support for a maximum journey time of eight hours as advocated by the RSPCA, Compassion in World Farming and many livestock producers and concerned members of the public and to uphold the Prime Minister's commitment to oppose any attempt to level down standards in Europe.
