Closure Of Goodwood House In Leicester

EDM number 1340 in 1993-94, proposed by Keith Vaz on 16/06/1994.

That this House condemns the decision by Leicestershire County Council which was pushed through by Conservative and Liberal Democrat councillors to close Goodwood House and three other old people's homes in Leicestershire resulting in 120 people losing their home; notes that the reasoning behind this move was purely financial and took no consideration of future need nor residents' feelings at having to leave their homes; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Social Security to intervene by providing additional funding to save these four vital homes, which are an integral part of the local community.
