That this House congratulates British Sikhs on combining in unity to organise a march and rally in London on Sunday 12th June, the tenth anniversary of the military attack by Indian forces on the complex of Sri Harimandir Sahib (the Golden Temple); notes the protest will condemn the desecration in 1984 of the holiest Sikh shrine, the consistent failure of successive Indian governments to meet the legitimate demands of Sikhs, and the continued violation of human rights in Punjab by Indian security forces; further notes a key demand of British Sikhs is that Her Majesty's Government should make representations to the Indian Government, that all Sikhs, regardless of political belief, should enjoy unfettered access to Sri Harimandir Sahib for pilgrimage; and believes British Sikhs wish Her Majesty's Government to also press the Indian Government to recognise and respect the universal sovereignty of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib to Sikhs throughout the world.
