Discriminatory Residential Qualifications Jersey
EDM number 1288 in 1993-94, proposed by David Hanson on 24/05/1994.
That this House notes that British citizens undertaking temporary contracts as teachers and nurses on Jersey are subject to Jersey's residential qualifications and can only live in Jersey whilst in employment; notes the recent cases of British subjects who, having given five years dedicated and valued service to Jersey, now find that at the end of their temporary contracts that in addition to being jobless are now due to Jersey's residential qualifications, homeless; condemns the discriminatory policy of Jersey, especially given that Jersey nationals have full residential rights in the United Kingdom; and calls on the British Government to make representations to the Jersey authorities on this matter.
