That this House demands a full public inquiry into the appointment of Ms Clare Spottiswoode to the position of Director General of OFGAS and the role played by ministers and officials of the DTI in her appointment; further seeks a full disclosure of all the advice given to her concerning the funding of energy saving initiatives including the legal advice she alleges has led to her current stance and the private advice she has been receiving from senior Conservative politicians; and seeks an inquiry into the recommendation that OFGAS should appoint the same public and parliamentary consultants already employed by British Gas and the conflicts of interests that will clearly arise if this is done.
