Menwith Hill Station
EDM number 1253 in 1993-94, proposed by Max Madden on 18/05/1994.
That this House expresses concern at the further expansion of Menwith Hill Station, the secret spy base in North Yorkshire, to which most Right honourable and honourable Members are denied access by the Ministry of Defence on security and operational grounds; believes elected members of Harrogate Council, responsible for determining planning applications concerning Menwith Hill Station, should be given free access to inspect the base and full information on which to properly assess the implications of planning applications on the local environment and the local economy, including employment; and further believes the British people and their elected representatives, locally and nationally, are entitled to full information as to the role, technical capability, control and administration of Menwith Hill Station, especially the extent to which the activities undertaken serve the interests of the USA, and, in particular, the security and intelligence interests of the National Security Agency.
