Wolverhampton Labour Group

That this House heartily congratulates Wolverhampton Labour Group on its resounding victory in regaining political control from the Tory and Liberal Democrats; is concerned that the previous political administration failed to set a balanced budget, causing ú1 million of service reductions, which were not identified by the Conservative and Liberal Democrats coalition in its annual budget making process; and notes that the Government's reduction of Wolverhampton's spending needs assessment for vital expenditure on schools, social services &c, by ú15 million in 1995-96, has presented Wolverhampton Labour Group with a poisoned chalice, which must act as a salutary lesson to all those who believe in the integrity and fiduciary competence of local government, from ever trusting dishonourable Conservative and Liberal Democrat pacts in future elections.
