DAME ALLAN'S BOYS' SCHOOL, NEWCASTLE ON TYNE
EDM number 1193 in 1993-94, proposed by Chris Mullin on 10/05/1994.
That this House notes with concern evidence of systematic bullying of fourth form pupils by sixth formers of Dame Allan's Boys' School, Newcastle upon Tyne; notes that on 18th January this culminated in a fight between a fourth former and sixth former outside the school; also notes that, following the fight, a group of sixth formers surrounded the fourth former and his mother shouting racial abuse and were only persuaded to desist by the intervention of a teacher from a neighbouring school; further notes that although there is a clear evidence that the fight was provoked by the sixth former, the fourth former, a constituent of the honourable Member for Sunderland South, was effectively expelled while the sixth formers involved suffered one week's suspension; believes that this affair has been grievously mishandled by the headmaster and school governors; and call for an impartial inquiry into the incident, the events that led up to it and the way in which it was handled by the school authorities.
