Benefits Equality For Widowers
EDM number 1182 in 1993-94, proposed by Hugh Bayley on 09/05/1994.
That this House expresses concern at the inequality between widows and widowers in terms of benefits received on the death of their spouse; notes that on the death of her husband a widow receives a lump sum of ú1,000 plus a weekly allowance of ú54.15 plus ú9.65 for each dependant child, whereas a widower receives none of these benefits; and calls upon the Government to pay widowers the same benefits that widows receive.
