Glasgow Royal Infirmary Nhs Trust
EDM number 1174 in 1993-94, proposed by Maria Fyfe on 05/05/1994.
That this House congratulates the porters and cleaners and their trade unions, at Glasgow Royal Infirmary NHS Trust, on their magnificent victory defeating the threat of swingeing cuts in pay and conditions before strike action had even begun, thus giving heart to public sector workers everywhere; recognises the honourable role played by ex-Lord Provost of Glasgow, Susan Baird, and other non-executive members of the Trust board, who refused to accept the injustice of the contract signed by Greater Glasgow Health Board and Executive Health Care; reflects that the widely felt anger of the hospital patients and the people of Glasgow, expressed by Archbishop Thomas Winning and others, played a significant part in securing this victory; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to abandon its effect to defy TUPE and stop trying to enforce pay cuts on those they have now learned can fight back.
