Cardiff-Wales Airport

EDM number 1168 in 1993-94, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 04/05/1994.

That this House notes the importance of Cardiff-Wales airport to the Welsh economy; further notes that government policies have pressured the existing shareholding local authorities to dispose of their interest in the airport, but that whereas South Glamorgan and West Glamorgan county councils have agreed to dispose of their interest, Mid Glamorgan has declined to do so; further notes that at a recent meeting of the airport board, the Secretary of State for Wales indicated that he could not see the airport being run effectively by proposed smaller unitary authorities; condemns the failure of the Tory Government to appreciate the importance of modern communication for Wales; and declares that only a democratic Parliament of Wales can be entrusted with the economic future of the nation.
