Bogus Sheriff Officer Summary Warrants

EDM number 1157 in 1993-94, proposed by Bill Walker on 03/05/1994.

That this House is concerned that, during the period of regional elections in Scotland, a substantial number of bogus Sheriff Officer summary warrants have been received throughout Tayside by Conservative and Labour Party officials and supporters; notes that the warrants were in envelopes delivered by the Post Office without postage stamps and that many had been posted in Edinburgh; and further notes that the warrants were very official in appearance and in the name of a Perth and Dundee based Sheriff Officer and that the allegations about unpaid community charge bills may influence electors and cause worry and create fear for the elderly and vulnerable in Tayside.
