Conservative Party And Status Of New Forest
EDM number 1151 in 1993-94, proposed by John Denham on 29/04/1994.
That this House notes the Conservative manifesto commitment to grant national park status to the New Forest, and is concerned that no action to implement this promise has yet been taken; notes further that of 223 letters of objection received since September 1992, 198 were submitted since 1st January 1994; that, of these, 181 were pro-forma objections recommending an enhanced role for the verderers and that such a pro-forma letter was distributed to members of the New Forest Conservative Association at their annual general meeting on 11th March 1994, by the guest speaker, Ms Carol Brodie, the agent to the honourable Member for the New Forest; believes that the Government's failure to guarantee the future of the New Forest reflects lobbying by vested interest in the New Forest Conservative Association; and calls on the Government to resist attempts by its own supporters to undermine its manifesto commitment and to implement national park status for the New Forest heritage area at the earliest opportunity.
