Arts Funding

EDM number 1140 in 1993-94, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 28/04/1994.

That this House notes that transitional committees are now being set up by local authorities in Wales in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government (Wales) Bill, that the responsibilities of these transitional committees and those of the shadow authorities which will be elected in 1995 are limited to statutory duties and that there is accordingly a real danger that the issue of arts funding will disappear entirely from the priorities of the new unitary authorities; and therefore calls on the Welsh Office to make provision for temporary funding for the arts during the two year period which will elapse before the new councils take over.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
