That this House notes that Mr Fergus Ewing, solicitor, although not himself a councillor nor holding any office in Scottish public life beyond that of unsuccessful parliamentary candidate but who has elected relatives, has accused Labour councils of being corrupt; notes that the document he presented on behalf of the Scottish National party failed to substantiate any of the alleged malpractices it reported and that the Scottish National Party are insufficiently confident about its findings to report these to the Secretary of State for Scotland or call for a public inquiry; concludes that the Scottish National party are merely engaged in a smear tactic in preference to detailing policies for the administration of Scottish local government; and calls upon Mr Ewing to show more leadership, courage, professional competence and integrity on such a serious matter.
