Plutonium Flights To Scotland
EDM number 106 in 1993-94, proposed by Llew Smith on 25/11/1993.
That this House is concerned at the plans of the German nuclear authorities to fly 1,500 kilogrammes of plutonium in 123 nuclear fuel rods from the Army airport at Pferdsfeld in Rheinland-Pfalz to Dounreay in Scotland; believes that the Radiation Protection Authority, the Bundesant fur Strahlenschutz, in Germany has no right to inflict the potential catastrophic risk this air transport of plutonium poses if the aircraft crashes; acknowledges the international concerns expressed by the European Parliament over such plutonium flights in its debates of November 1992 and July 1993; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to refuse permission for this dangerous transport of plutonium to take place.
