Mod Approval Procedure For Defence Contractors

That this House deplores the further evidence that the privatisation of modifications contracts for the Royal Air Force is causing physical damage to RAF capabilities, in that Airwork Ltd. are now reported to have damaged 18 out of a total of 61 RAF Hercules aircraft having infra-red defensive capability installed, to add to the wrecking of F-3 Tornados as RAF St. Athan in the course of modification work carried out by the same company in 1992-93; and believes that the Ministry of Defence approval procedure for defence contractors needs to be tightened up, especially as Airwork's quality systems certificate No. ISO9001 was only awarded by Bureau Veritas UK, which itself does not include the aerospace industry in its own sectors, where it has any competence for quality accreditation.
