Future Of Point Of Ayr Colliery
EDM number 970 in 1992-93, proposed by David Hanson on 01/12/1992.
That this House notes that the original report drawn up by mining consultants, J. T. Boyd for the Department of Trade and Industry in October 1991 recommended that Point of Ayr colliery in Clwyn should receive the necessary investment to ensure the pit's continuing viability into the next century; that, as a result, considerable investment into the very latest mining technology has been made by British Coal; that productivity at the colliery has recently reached record levels and that coal is now being produced at a world beating price of between ú1.13-ú1.15 GJ; congratulates the miners of Point of Ayr for their solid record of achievement; believes that the current review covering Point of Ayr must ensure that the colliery receives a permanent reprieve and that further proposed investment goes ahead as planned; and further demands that the President of the Board of Trade release the Executive Summary of the 1991 Boyds Report in the public interest and under the auspices of the Citizen's Charter.
