Continuing Achievement In British Coal
EDM number 956 in 1992-93, proposed by Peter Hardy on 26/11/1992.
That this House notes the continuing achievement of Britain's miners who in the week ending 21st November, secured an average output of 6.72 tonnes per man-shift, reaching a level of efficiency which is 16 per cent. higher than that recorded one year ago, so justifying the claim that the mining industry should not be subjected to the contraction and closure which was recently announced and which would inevitably lead Britain into such an intensity of energy dependence as would be of profound economic disadvantage within a relatively short time.
