PRIME MINISTER'S ROLE IN GATT TALKS
EDM number 927 in 1992-93, proposed by Anthony Grant on 24/11/1992.
That this House warmly congratulates the Prime Minister on his success in taking the lead in re-starting the stalled U.S.-European talks on oilseeds and the major role of the British Presidency in bringing them to a successful conclusion, thereby averting the imminent risk of a trade war and enabling the resumption of substantive multilateral trade talks under the GATT; supports his determination to bring these wider talks also to success, if possible by the end of the year; and affirms that trade liberalisation is in the interests of all trading nations and their industries, including agriculture and affords the prospect of perhaps $200 billion extra output and the best chance for early resumption of world economic growth.
