Public Sector Pay

EDM number 917 in 1992-93, proposed by Ronnie Campbell on 23/11/1992.

That this House is appalled at the announcement in the Autumn Statement, to restrict public sector pay rises to between 0 and 1.5 per cent.; feels that this is an insult to public sector workers; notes that for hundreds of thousands of public sector workers and their families who already have to exist on low pay, the Government's decision will mean a further reduction in their standard of living; and further notes that his decision, which is a result of the Government's financial incompetence, will add to the problems of the economy, as public sector workers will have less money to spend on buying goods and services which are produced or provided by workers elsewhere in the economy.
