Public Sector Pay Limits And The Low Paid

That this House notes public sector pay rises are to be limited by 1.5 per cent. by the Government; calculates that a low-paid worker on ú10,000 a year can expect an increase of ú150 rather than ú350 if their income had been raised in line with inflation; further calculates that this ú2000 per annum loss is equivalent to an increase in income tax from 25 per cent. to 28 per cent. taking into account a married person's tax allowances; and demands that the Government does not penalise the low paid.
