PAY RESTRAINT AND MEMBERS' JOBS
EDM number 897 in 1992-93, proposed by Terry Lewis on 19/11/1992.
That this House rejects the notion that public sector pay restraint will promote economic recovery; views with disdain the Prime Minister's assertion that holding down the pay of the already low paid would increase job opportunities for the unemployed; notes that the keenest supporter of the Prime Minister's new position are Right honourable and honourable Members who, according to the Register of Members' Interests hold, themselves, multiple jobs; and therefore calls upon the Prime Minister to demonstrate his alleged recognition of the concept of fairness by encouraging his Right honourable and honourable Friends to be employed in one job only until unemployment falls to 1979 levels.
This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs.
