Redundancies In The Cement Industry
EDM number 889 in 1992-93, proposed by John Home Robertson on 19/11/1992.
That this House deplores the loss of five hundred and fifty jobs at Blue Circle Cement plants throughout Britain; recognises that this is a direct consequence of the refusal of the Government to adopt policies to sustain the construction industry, and that the measures in the Autumn Statement are too little and too late; further notes that Ministers have failed to deal with the problem of subsidised cement imports, and that the United Kingdom cement industry is being severely penalised by massive electricity price increases following electricity privatisation; and urges the Government to adopt Labour's plan for recovery to regenerate the construction industry and to save jobs at Blue Circle Industries.
