Free Nhs Dental Checks And The Prevention Of Oral Cancer In Scotland
EDM number 877 in 1992-93, proposed by John McAllion on 18/11/1992.
That this House recognises that recent medical research has revealed an increase in deaths from oral cancer in Scotland; is conscious of the dramatic drop in the number of dental examinations carried out in Scotland following the introduction of charges on 1st January 1989; notes the emphasis currently given by the Scottish Health Department to the importance of detecting and treating pre-malignant and malignant conditions at an early stage; and calls on Government Health Ministers to reintroduce free NHS dental checks, which are the only sure way of achieving the health goals which the Government has set for itself.
