LONDONERS' PETITIONS AGAINST PIT CLOSURES
EDM number 873 in 1992-93, proposed by Glenda Jackson on 18/11/1992.
That this House applauds the people of London in their unstinting support for the threatened coal mining communities, as expressed in the thousands of signatures collected via petitions across the capital, urging Her Majesty's Government to abandon the proposed pit closures as an act of social and economic vandalism, proving that Londoners, despite suffering severe unemployment levels, still find time to express their concern for others threatened with the dole queue, a concern markedly lacking in the Government's proposed pit closure programme.
This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
