Underground Testing Of Nuclear Weapons
EDM number 855 in 1992-93, proposed by John Heppell on 16/11/1992.
That this House deplores the fact that the United Kingdom Government insists on continuing with the underground testing of nuclear weapons despite the United States Government's nine month moratorium and likely cessation of its own nuclear weapons testing programme; notes that United States legislation will constrain the United Kingdom's ability to test at the Nevada test site; expresses solidarity with the Western Shoshone people and others whose homelands have suffered nuclear contamination resulting in high levels of cancer incidence, including childhood leukaemia; and calls upon the Government of the United Kingdom to bring an end to all nuclear weapons testing and begin negotiating a comprehensive test ban treaty.
