Reform Of Caravan Sites Act 1968
EDM number 833 in 1992-93, proposed by John Gunnell on 12/11/1992.
That this House calls upon Her Majesty's Government to review the proposals for reform of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 contained in the consultation papers issued by the Department of the Environment on 18th August in recognition of the fact that many of these proposals would be of little potential benefit to landowners since they would be unworkable in practice for local authorities, would be unjust for those that wish to pursue a nomadic way of life, would provide a negligible saving of public expenditure in relation to site provision whilst causing an increase in expenditure on temporary accommodation for those rendered homeless as well as increased policing costs and would do nothing either to solve the problem of lack of suitable accommodation or to fulfil the Prime Minister's stated aim of creating a society at ease with itself.
