Fishing Crisis And Parliament

That this House notes the recommendation of the Select Committee on European Legislation on 29th January for a debate, in Standing Committee A, on the European Commission proposal to replace Council Regulation (EEC) No. 170/83 which fundamentally alters the Common Fisheries Policy, and the subsequent referral of the matter on 17th June; notes that in spite of the fact that the CFP review has almost completed its progress through its Commission and European parliamentary stages, no such debate has been arranged in Committee or on the floor of the House, condemns the shameful neglect of fishing interests on the part of the Government; and demands an immediate and full-scale debate on both the proposed review of the CFP and the crisis affecting many fishing communities.
