Increase In Severn Bridge Tolls
EDM number 779 in 1992-93, proposed by Roy Hughes on 10/11/1992.
That this House deplores the recently proposed increases in tolls on the Severn Bridge; notes that Opposition honourable Members exposed this future tolls regime on the Floor of the House and in Standing Committee; believes that these toll increases will have a seriously detrimental effect upon the Welsh economy; calls upon the Government to renegotiate with the French Amercian consortium which owns the bridge, so that this 10 per cent. increase, which is well above the rate of inflation, can be stopped; and notes that these unwanted increases will have a devastating effect upon small businesses operating on both sides of the Channel.
