British Coal And Redundancy Notices To Every Pit

That this House condemns the action of British Coal for sending out advance redundancy notices to every pit in Britain; regards such action as a pre-emptive strike against the current Parliamentary investigation; suggests that this is treating with utter contempt the views of the vast majority of the population who wish to see the pits remain open; and calls upon the Government to instruct British Coal to withdraw these redundancy notices so that the mining industry can be given the right to challenge for massively increased power station contracts and thus save not only 31,000 jobs but 100,000 others in ancillary industries.
