Opencasting And The National Trust
EDM number 714 in 1992-93, proposed by John Gunnell on 02/11/1992.
That this House, believing the findings of its former Select Committee on Energy that 'opencast mining is one of the most environmentally destructive processes being carried out in the United Kingdom',expresses amazement and anger at the Yorkshire Region National Trust's decison to agree a sponsorship deal with British Coal's Opencast Executive; and calls upon the Trust's National Council to affirm that they will oppose any proposals to opencast on or adjacent to Trust properties, will not sell land to British Coal for opencast purposes and will given support to those in this House who wish to place permission to opencast within the remit of local authorities and the withdrawal of Minerals Planning Guidance Note 3.
