Pit Closures And Opencast Coal Development

That this House believes any review of energy policy should include a thorough investigation into the position occupied by opencast coal; believes it to be incongruous that deep mining communities should be sacrificed at the same time as other communities are ravaged by the environmentally intrusive opencast method of winning coal; urges Her Majesty's Government to refuse any further opencast licences to British Coal and private sector companies forthwith; and further demands the immediate withdrawal of Minerals Policy Guidance Notes 3.
