That this House is extremely concerned that the current negotiations on new coal contracts will result in a significant reduction in the amount of British deep mined coal taken by the generators; views with alarm the massive expansion of opencast mining which will further impact on deep mined capacity and jobs; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to now withdraw Minerals Planning Guidance Note 3 and let local authorities make the final decision on applications for opencast operations.
