Conduct Of The President Of The Board Of Trade And The Secretary Of State For Wales
EDM number 624 in 1992-93, proposed by Eric Illsley on 22/10/1992.
That this House deplores the conduct of the President of the Board of Trade and the Secretary of State for Wales in that they apparently misled the House during the debate on colliery closures, and the country in referring to a 'statutory 90 day consultation and review' of the 10 collieries listed for closure; notes that there is no such review other than the duty placed upon employers to notify the Department of Employment 90 days prior to the implementation of more than 100 redundancies; realises that no consultation or review of the 10 collieries will take place; and calls upon the two ministers to apologise to the House, to clarify the situation and announce a review of the 10 collieries.
This motion has been signed by a total of 64 MPs.
