Working Conditions At Grattan Plc
EDM number 560 in 1992-93, proposed by Bob Cryer on 24/09/1992.
That this House reiterates the right of workers to withdraw their labour; recognises that removal of that right imposes virtual bondage; strongly condemns the management of Grattan plc in its blatant attempt to subvert the ballot required by government legislation through the issue of a letter threatening dismissal to any workers supporting a democratic decision to strike; is revolted by this vicious threat which smacks of Germany in the 1930s rather than Bradford in the 1990s; recommends to the directors that if they are concerned about trading conditions they accept the average wage of Gratton workers and exchange their sumptuous company cars for more frugal models as an example to persuade rather than an attempt to impose; and urges complete withdrawal of the threat of sackings.
