International Control Of Nuclear Materials
EDM number 516 in 1992-93, proposed by Paul Flynn on 15/07/1992.
That this House welcomes the protest carried out by several hundred Japanese environment and peace campaigners on 7th July against the decision by the Japanese Government and nuclear industry to begin to fuel the Monju fast reactor with plutonium fuel; believes this decision by the Japanese Government contradicts the commitment made by the Japanese Prime Minister in the G-7 Summit declaration issued in Munich on 7th July to support the international monitoring and control over nuclear materials that could be used in weapons; notes that the public protest in Japan was permitted in contrast to the injunction taken out by BNFL in Britain to ban a similar protest at Sellafield in June; and calls on the Government to initiate an urgent inquiry into the international trade in nuclear weapons usable materials.
This motion has been signed by a total of 38 MPs.
