Employment Practices Of A Manufacturer In Cumbria (No. 2)

That this House notes that the honourable Member for Workington persisted in asking, several times, for a meeting with the proprietors of a particular manufacturer in Cumbria without success and that repeated telephone calls to the company management headquarters were not returned; notes that during the General Election campaign, managers placed a memo on the company's notice board avising its workforce not to vote Labour, causing outrage amongst employees; further notes that the company continues to treat members of trade unions like refuse on a rubbish tip; questions why the company cannot manage its affairs intelligently and design a job share scheme that would be of benefit to its employees and to the smooth running of its activities; believes that employers of this nature are a blot on the Cumbrian landscape, whose survival is only possible in areas of high unemployment; and believes that those employers whose management policies are based on intimidating their workforces damage labour relations for all other companies in the area.
