Threatened Closure Of No42 District Workshop Reme, Liverpool

EDM number 498 in 1992-93, proposed by Robert N Wareing on 14/07/1992.

That this House condemns proposals to close the REME District No. 42 Workshop in Deysbrook Lane, Liverpool; points to its proven efficiency over the years and the loyalty of its workforce; commends the training in skills which it has provided in a city so starved of such opportunities; believes that the privatisation of its work will increase the cost to the taxpayer; considers the period leading up to this decision by the Ministry of Defence to have been one of no consultation with the 150 workers now facing redundancy in an area of high unemployment; and calls on the Government to reverse its decision forthwith.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs.
