Use Of The Swastika

That this House believes that the display of the swastika - as an obscene symbol of degradation and horror for the millions who suffered and died under the Nazis, and for reasonable people everywhere - is entirely reprehensible and insensitive; deplores therefore the tasteless and offensive advertising campaign mounted by The Sunday Times to publicise its serialisation of the diaries of Josef Goebbels; notes that the advertisements bear the swastika and have been placed in areas such as Stamford Hill and Tottenham which have large ethnic minority populations; believes that the posters will cause fear, alarm, and anger amongst the peaceful citizenry of these areas and others; and calls on News International to remove the advertisements forthwith, and to apologise for the deep and grievous offence that they have caused.
