Fishing And British Waterways
EDM number 462 in 1992-93, proposed by Elliot Morley on 08/07/1992.
That this House expresses grave concern at the constant increases of rents for fishing rights demanded by British Waterways from the Keadby Canal Joint Angling Committee; notes that such rents doubled in 1988 and have been constantly increased each year well above inflation to the current level of ú6,000 for just over seven miles of fishing; pays tribute to the work of the Keadby Canal Joint Angling Committee in the success of their management and re-stocking of this fishery, raising it to top national standards at entirely their own expense; and calls upon British Waterways to recognise the leisure and amenity value of canals without this continual drive towards excessive commercialism of a national asset.
This motion has been signed by a total of 66 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
