Family Conciliation Scotland

EDM number 459 in 1992-93, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 08/07/1992.

That this House congratulates Family Conciliation Scotland for its pioneering work on behalf of children of separating and divorcing couples; condemns the Secretary of State for Scotland's refusal to grant short-term financial assistance to the Highland service and urges reconsideration; expresses concern that without urgent interim funding from central government sources, regional services in Tayside, Highland, Grampian, Strathclyde and Lothian regions will be subject to closure or a reduction in level of service provision before the findings of the recently commissioned PIEDA report are even published; therefore calls upon the Scottish Office to meet the budget shortfall of all five regional family conciliation services now faced with financial crisis to avoid the loss of this valuable service; and further urges the Scottish Office to give its support to the proposal for a centrally funded National Scottish Family Conciliation Service.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
